Yesterday we planted a brand new tree in the orchard. This is our Froglets crab apple tree and we can say hello to it on our way to and from our classroom. Mrs Twiggs talked to us all about our tree and what it needs to grow. We planted it in a big hole and as we gave it a drink of water, we cheered to celebrate it being planted! We cannot wait to see how tall it will grow but know it may take sometime… maybe one day it will be bigger than us!

We have had a wonderful day at Froglets today to celebrate World Book Day! We had so many characters come to visit: Peter Pan, Snow White, Princess Pearl, Love Monster, Chase, Wendy Darling, Elsa, Little Red Riding Hood, a pirate, a tiger, a farmer, Captain America, a fairy and even a Storm Trooper. Even the grown ups joined in! We joined our friends at home to sing Nursery Rhymes, read LOTS of books, sung LOTS of Nursery Rhymes and coloured in some book character pictures. We have had a book-tastic day! 🙂

Last week was Arts week for the whole school with a focus on happiness. We had some amazing bottle moment drawings sent in to Froglets with trips to the zoo, pizza making with friends, kite flying, hugs for grandparents and playing with our friends all on the to do list for as soon as we can!

In school we have been thinking about what makes us happy. Everyone painted happy faces onto a heart shape and told us about when they feel happy! These included: dancing, painting, being tickled, butterflies, going to the beach, running fast, cuddling puppies and chocolate!

This week we have been exploring love! This is the focus of our schools definition of spirituality. We have all collaged a heart shape using different media and materials. We then drew a picture of someone we love and talked about why! We have read some books all about love and thought about how we know we are loved.

We had an exciting day today in nursery with new climbing equipment being installed! We have 2 tunnels, climbing walls and even a net to climb across! Next week they will come to add a soft surface underneath so we can jump off safely & then we can play on it… we were all very excited to see the men working hard to cement it down and we are looking forward to playing on it soon! 🙂

Today we had some visitors who drew all over our grass! I wonder what they are doing? I wonder if you can guess why they have left these marks in our garden? Watch this space for some more updates next week!

Our focus question this term is… Who are the famous animals in my book? This week we have started exploring the book Dear Zoo by reading it and discussing what we already know about the animals in the story. We know a lot already! Some of our ideas included: Frogs are green and hop, snakes hiss, lions have 4 legs and roar, camels have water in their humps and dogs are fluffy! We have also started painting and collaging the animals, playing with our small world zoo and moving our bodies like the different animals.

We started this term focusing on the season of Winter. It was pretty chilly at Nursery and we explored the frost and ice in the garden while the weather was cold!

Inside we put some of our toys in pots of water and talked about what would happen to the water when we left it overnight in the freezer. Lots of amazing wow words were explored including freeze, colder, icy, frosty and chilly!

When we checked out pots they were totally frozen! We then had to help our toys escape and had so much fun trying to break the ice to get them out! We had so much fun we repeated the activity the next day too… such amazing scientific exploration! 🙂
