🐸 Our wonderful team! πŸΈ

Welcome to the Autumn Term! it has been lovely to meet all our new families and to welcome back our returning froglets. The children have had a great start to the term and have made some lovely new friendships!

Today I am introducing Mrs Small and Mrs Warren. These 2 ladies are in Froglets every day with Mrs Small in the Pond classrooms and Mrs Warren based in the LilyPad classroom. Mrs Warren loves pink, sparkles and music and Mrs Small loves making things, her dog Charlie and fudge!

Busy Bees!

We have been lucky enough to see up close the special work bees can do. We had a look at a ‘rack’ from inside the hive and we all had a chance to look closely at the honeycomb they make. Everyone liked smelling how sweet it was and some children even had a little try of it! Miss Brockwell keeps bees at home so she was able to tell us all about their clever jobs. We are now going to keep an eye out for them on our flowers outside and will enjoy our honey even more!

Bug hunting

As part of our topic ‘Mad about Minibeasts’ we went bug hunting in the secret garden. It was a brilliant chance to find out where creepy crawlies like to live, especially as we want to make a bug hotel for them so it was good to see where they like to hide and what they need. We found a whole range of different bugs, ones that move fast and scuttle (our word of the week!) and ones that slide around very slowly! Under logs and in the holes of bricks were some of their best hiding places. Why don’t you have a hunt in your garden at home or in the parks or woods near you? Show us on tapestry what you discover!

Hello Barry! 🐌

Today we welcomed Barry into Froglets. He is an African Land Snail who usually lives in Reception but has come to visit us! We learnt all about his shell, foot, eyes and mouth, what he likes to eat and we all gave his shell a gentle stroke! He is as big as Mrs Knight’s hand! Since welcoming him this morning we have also found over 5 garden snails in Froglets… they are much smaller!

Mad about Minibeasts! πŸ¦‹πŸͺ²πŸžπŸ›πŸͺ±πŸπŸ•ΈπŸ•·

This term we will be learning all about the world around us and minibeasts. We have some new provision set up for next week and lots of creative activities to kick start our learning. If you do not have this book at home please have a look together on YouTube.

We have also set up a mini β€˜school’ as the children have been enjoying being teachers. They sit and listen beautifully for their teacher friends!

🦎 We found a newt! πŸ¦Ž

Today we moved the mud kitchen and found a newt hiding in a hole in the wall! We carefully carried him inside and found a pot so that we could look at his beautiful skin. Mrs Knight showed us where the secret garden is and we took him to the pond where he can safely make a home. We were very excited to find him and we are all looking forward to finding more creatures in our garden this term.
